Welcome to Year 4!
Mr Thompson and Mrs Etches welcome you to Class 4!
In Class 4 you will learn to play the flute or clarinet and continue your swimming lessons. Mr Thompson loves his sport and always strives to provide a wide range of sporting activities for you to take part in!
Learning journeys are planned according to the interests of the class. During the autumn term, the children learn all about British Values and what it means to be British. They help to develop a class charter and class rules. They explore Aesop’s fables, looking at the morals of the stories and write their own fables. After that, they read the story of the Iron Man by Ted Hughes and the children write newspaper reports about the Iron Man.
During the spring term, the children research popular children’s author Roald Dahl and read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. They become authors and write their own chapters based on the ‘Chocolate Room’.
Finally, during the summer term, the children find out what it was like from the very dawn of man around 3,000,000 years ago in the Stone Age, right through to the end of the Iron Age. They have an informative trip to Kents Cavern, where the children come face to face with the habitats of our oldest ancestors! The children also have great fun learning to play tennis during the Wimbledon learning enquiry, becoming sports journalists and completing Grand Slam challenges.
Year 4 is a FUN packed year!
