Task- Today we will look at a range of characters from some different books and think of words to describe them. We will discuss the term adjective and select some to describe the woolly mammoth in story How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth. We will write a description of the woolly mammoth together. Next the children will be able to select their own favourite character from a book and draw a picture and write a description using their chosen adjectives.

Don’t forget to look at the World Book Day website for lots of other activities and information.

10.30-10.40 Spellings

Have another go at spelling our words for this week:

home, note, woke, those, alone

Notice the split digraph o-e!

You can use the sheet or simply write them on paper.

Remember we will have our spelling test tomorrow morning for these words.

1pm Reading

Please read the information in ‘World Book Day Comprehension’ together on page 1 (easier), page 3 (middle ability) or page 7 (higher ability). The differentiated questions follow on from each set of facts – please just choose the questions most suited to your child. There is no need to write down the answers.

2.00pm World book day competition

‘Cardboard Tube Challenge’ for World Book Day 2021.

The brief is to create your favourite book or book character using cardboard tubes in their original cylindrical shape – that’s the challenge!

• The tubes can be wrapped in paper or you can stick things on to create your design.

• The design should represent your favourite book character or book.

• Any size cardboard tube is acceptable e.g. kitchen roll tube, wrapping paper tube.

• Any medium can be used to achieve this e.g. felt tip, ink, paint, collage.

We are inviting families at home to have a go at the challenge and send pictures of your creations either via Dojo message or email to Mrs Ryder (email address on Dojo) by Friday 5th March at 12 noon.

A Winner from both KS1 & KS2 will be announced on Monday 8th March.

All entries will be available to see on a virtual gallery later that week.

Have fun and get creating!

Or if you have already made your competition entry you may like to try a book scavenger hunt.

Find a book or think of a story with the different characters or places on the scavenger hunt sheet. How many stories can you think of? Why not choose one of these stories to share together.
